June 30, 2006 marked the end of Phase 1 of the Pakistan Emergency Information Programme ( PEIP ) as funding for this phase ran out resulting in what we hope is a brief stop in production and broadcast of Jazba-e-Tameer programme. However, our technical assistance to the seven emergency FM radio stations through broadcast and production equipment continues in the meanwhile.

Jazba-e-Tameer began airing in late October 2005 and was broadcast non-stop till June 30 – over 200 daily one-hour programmes have been produced featuring over 1,600 features on relief and recovery covering the efforts of the international relief community and the government authorities in the earthquake regions. The programme went off air from July 1, 2006 but will, hopefully, be back on air in August as we look for funding for Phase 2 of PEIP. Internews and the Jazba-e-Tameer team are grateful for the tremendous support extended to the programme by the humanitarian community, government authorities, emergency response FM stations, the listeners and especially DFID and SDC who funded the project. We hope to be back on air across all the ER stations in the quake-affected regions soon. We are looking for funding to produce and launch a new series of Jazba-e-Tameer – this time with a shift in focus from relief to reconstruction.
