Jazba-e-Tameer photographic exhibition in Switzerland

The headquarters of the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC) in September 2006 hosted an exhibition of world class photographer Mark Edwards of the work of Internews in emergency response support at its headquarters in Berne, Switzerland.

The Director of the SDC and the Pakistani Ambassador to Switzerland launched the Jazba-e-Tameer exhibition as part of the 40th anniversary celebration of development cooperation between the two countries.

The exhibition, named Jazba-e-Tameer (The Desire to Rebuild) after a daily hour long radio programme of that name, featured in-depth Internews' work in the earthquake zones of Pakistan in 2005-06 to support the information needs of affected communities.

The exhibition explained how the Jazba-e-Tameer radio programme became not only a platform through which local people in the zones were able to express their needs and concerns but also a driver of government and international relief efficiency and responsiveness. The exhibition documented, for instance, how  local corruption in the zones was stamped out following Jazba broadcasts.

The exhibition also covered the work of Internews in Indonesia post the Tsunami of 2004 and the Yogyakarta earthquake of 2006.

Internews plans to show the exhibition to policy-makers at the UK's Department for International Development (DFID) in London and at the World Congress for Communications for Development (WCCD) in Rome, Italy.
